New Trial for Citizens Voice
State Supreme Court today ordered a new trial in the case of Luzerne Countian Thomas Joseph against the Citizens Voice.
The previous, Luzerne County trial, resulted in a three and a half-million-dollar award in favor of Thomas Joseph. Joseph claimed a defamatory newspaper story about him, ran in the Voice.
Lawyers for the Citizens Voice obtained the new trial order, based on claims mob figure Billy D'Elia arranged a favorable, court ruling, for Thomas Joseph, through former President Judge Michael Conahan. Former Judge Mark Ciavarella, named with Conahan in a courthouse corruption scandal, presided over the trial.
