A Call To Cap Variable Rates
A state lawmaker is calling for a cap on electricity rates subject to hourly changes, in the wake of spiking rates during the winter. Variable rate plans based on the wholesale price of electricity were the reason bills skyrocketed in February when power was in high demand. The Public Utility Commission received nearly 5,000 calls. Republican State Representative Robert Godshall of Montgomery County, wants to put caps on variable rates. The PUC says it is working on making sure electric customers get advance notice when their rates increase.
