Broken Bridges On Board When Weather Breaks
As the season for bridge construction and repairs draws near, the state transportation department is taking stock of the many structures that require attention. The commonwealth's new $2.4 billion transportation law will make a serious dent in fixing hundreds of deficient and dangerous bridges when projects get underway soon. Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch says the to-do list for Pennsylvania's bridges is pretty extensive. There are 4,000 structurally deficient bridges and another 11,000 that are borderline. Schoch says weight restrictions will be coming off of bridges within two years of their construction dates.
