A plan that could get lawmakers back to doling out education funding based on a specific formula has passed the state House it's something school advocates have endorsed for years. The measure that passed the House would create a commission to study education funding and recommend a funding formula. That forumla would only apply to any funding increases, and it would be up to the Legislature to enact it. A formula had been in place, but it hasn't been used since Governor Tom Corbett came into office. The Republican-backed measure passed with overwhelming, bipartisan support, but not before a rehashing of the ongoing debate over cuts to education, which Republicans say is because of evaporated stimulus funding.
