Former state Senator Ray Musto wasn't ordered to trial....but he was ordered to the hospital by Federal Judge A. Richard Caputo. Caputo decided that Musto, of Pittston Township, is mentally incompetent at this point to stand trial next week. He was scheduled to face public corruption charges but a competency hearing earlier this week showed Musto has non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and toxins in his brain have affected his mental competency "... to understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against him..." A doctor also testified that the pressures of a trial could put pressure on an aneurysm that could cause an aorta to rupture. Caputo directed Musto to be hospitalized for a period not to exceed four months. During that time he will be evaulated to see if his condition progresses to the point where he can handle a trial.
