Baker-Backed Bill Heads To Governor
Volunteer fire companies will be able to borrow more money for badly needed equipment, under a bill headed for the Governor's desk. The state Senate unanimously passed a measure that will increase limits on the Volunteer Loan Assistance Program. The bill doubles the amount of money that fire companies are permitted to borrow for equipment and apparatus. Loan limits have not changed in more than 40 years . Stagnant at inadequate levels, says Senator Lisa Baker of Luzerne County. Senator Baker said no additional tax dollars are needed for the bill, which comes from a self-sustaining revolving loan fund.
