SNAP Funds Snapped Back

Those who receive food stamps in Pennsylvania will find federal funding to be less stimulating starting today. The federal stimulus package has expired. That means food stamp benefits, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, will be reduced by about 5.4 percent. The state Department of Public Welfare, said more than 1.8 million individuals receive SNAP benefits in Pennsylvania. She said recipients received letters notifying them of the cutback. In 2012, the average monthly SNAP benefit per household was $265.86.
