While teachers in the Wyoming Area School District head back to the picket line, the former head of their union has been battling something other than budgets and benefits. 48 year old Lisa Barrett, of Shavetown, has worked out a plea deal with federal prosecutors after being charged with taking more than 30-thousand dollars worth of union funds for personal use. Barrett resigned from the union presidency in March of this year. She is no longer a teacher. Barret faces a maximum of five years but her circumstances as a first-offender should substantially reduce the penalties.
