Sen. John Blake is promoting wind energy as part of a diverse state and national energy portfolio. He says the state's operating wind farms reduce global warming pollution that would otherwise be emitted by fossil fuel-burning power plants by 1.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year - the equivalent of taking 218,000 cars off the road each year. The Penn-Environment report estimates these benefits will continue through 2016 if wind development continues at a pace comparable to that in recent years.
